RTMP Protocol & rtmpdump

RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) is a protocol developed by Adbobe Systems for streaming video. Despite Adobe’s promise to release the protocol, they have bullied Sourceforge into removing the rtmpdump project, which implements the standard RTMP protocol, including the RTMPE variation.

A clean room specification of the RTMPE protocol is mirrored locally here. It is also available at lkcl. This is not a copyright infringement tool, but simply a description of a standard method of communication used for streaming video. I do not encourage any sort of copyright infringement or piracy by use of the protocol specs provided here.

I do encourage the use of this protocol with free and open server implementations, including:
Red5
Mammoth
haXe Video
RubyIZUMI
CRTMPServer

You can find more documentation on the RTMP protocol at the following sites:
osflash
gnashdev
rtmpy

You may also find the rtmpdump 1.6 source at the following sites:

Big thanks to lkcl.
